Today the medical team decided to start trying to raise Christopher’s level of consciousness under very controlled circumstances. This is good news. The nurses were able to decrease Christopher’s sedation and they have also discontinued his paralytic agent (this was used to keep Christopher very quiet, let his brain rest and so he didn’t have to work to breathe on the ventilator) Christopher is now breathing some on his own again. All of this occurred without an increase in his intracranial pressure.
The trauma doc came in this morning and told us he needed to put in a second chest tube to help inflate his lung and drain fluid. They also got the arterial line back in.
In preparation for his CT tomorrow, where he will have to lie flat on his back, they did another test. They lowered his head flat for ten minutes to see what his intracranial pressure would do. It topped out at 16 but went straight back to 7 when they raised his head back up. An ICP of 7 is good. Say prayers for a good CT report tomorrow. All in all another good day.
When my friends father was in the hospital they set up a caring bridge.org website. It is like a blog but it also has a place for people to donate! I know hospital bills are very expensive and I am sure there are many people looking for a way to show their love towards Chris without bombarding the family at the hospital! Just wanted to share this and maybe it will help the family ease their mind of the financial worries so they can have all of their focus on getting Chris better!
