Tuesday Aug 28 Update

Christopher has had a good day, he worked hard during PT. Today they had him on the tilt table which will eventually help to stand him up. He is strapped flat to the table and they slowly bring him up vertically and stretch his upper body.

The team also had him simulating riding a bike with a device that is attached to his legs. Pretty amazing apparatus, he was able to do about 15 minutes. He continues to be restless at night and is not sleeping well. Hopefully the increased exercise will tire him enough that he will begin to rest better.

We are still waiting for the day he wakes from the coma; we pray for it every minute of every day.

Thank you for your continued prayers.

  1. I am a stranger following his story. He is so blessed to have such an amazing support system - family and friends. My prayers are for him to wake up too and to be whole in body, mind and spirit. Keep the faith and may God bless each of you that love him and stand by his side during this tough time with comfort, peace and strength to endure the waiting.

  2. My daughter Kat Segell is friends with Chris, Tyler and was close to Ryan. I have been following Chris's progress since the beginning and can't imagine how scary and difficult this is for the Heitzman family.

I found the following prayer today on healing and it inspired me to order prayer bracelets in honor of Chris.

Dear Lord of Mercy and Father of Comfort,
You are the One I turn to for help in moments of weakness and times of need. I ask you to be with Chris in this injury. Psalm 107:20 says that you send out your Word and heal. So then, please send your healing Word to Chris. In the name of Jesus, wake from this coma and heal his, mind, spirit and body.

Dear Lord, I ask you to turn this weakness into strength, suffering into compassion, sorrow into joy, and pain into comfort for others. May your servant trust in your goodness and hope in your faithfulness, even in the middle of this suffering. Let him be filled with patience and joy in your presence as he waits for your healing touch.

Please restore your servant, Chris to full health, dear Father. Remove all fear and doubt from his heart by the power of your Holy Spirit, and may you, Lord, be glorified through his life.

As you heal and renew your servant, Lord, may he bless and praise you.

All of this I pray in the name of Jesus Christ.

    Amen.

I should receive them in a about a week. If you would like one, please let me know at denisesegell@msn.com. I hope that they will be a reminder to everyone who wears one to pray without ceasing for his whole recovery. There is no cost to you for the bracelet.

As soon as I receive them I will be happy to pass them out or send them to anyone who would like to pray for Chris, his healing, strength, hope and continue to believe. Please keep them all in your prayers and pray without ceasing.

  3. I am a stranger following Christopher's blog, as well. (I live and work by Lassiter H.S.) You guys are an inspiration to me!! I will never understand your pain, but I do know the pain of having your family devastated in a split second – when everything was just fine – we were good people – we had dreams. And, instantly it our lives were changed forever.

I would like to encourage you with a few words: We do learn how to adjust to tragedy. You won’t live in this state of mind forever. You will learn to make sense of things in your own way – not in the way others propose or expect - but in your own special way - which will take you on a very, long journey - because it takes a lifetime to learn how to live through devastation. You will never be the same again. Your life will always be different. You will never have some things that you really, really wanted. Scream, cry and question the unfairness and when you’re done-get up and do your best tomorrow. Embrace your unique life because it gives you the ability to see the beauty in the things you cannot change. And remember - by doing your best, you live!

    Peace Be With You!!!

  4. Wow Angela that is AMAZING! I am also a stranger, but know these boys names from baseball and common friends. I have followed Christopher's blog daily. I am in awe of this family's strength, grace and dignity as they face the "unknown". I cannot begin to imagine and never want to know what they are going through. My oldest is one year younger than these boys and my biggest fear is a tragedy of this sort. I continue to pray for Christopher's complete healing and for strength and peace for the Heitzman and Aschenbach families. I wish there was more to offer them. I do hope that they know that there are many "stranger" hearts that ache for them.

    Many prayers and peace.....Dani
