Our Journey To Recovery

Friday October 18th

Christopher is doing well, he ended up staying in the hospital an extra night. We are trying to work out all the logistics for his physical therapy. We had changed hotels to have more room so when he got out of the hospital we would be able to do his PT there before coming home. But the situation has now changed with us staying until Nov. 6th.

We had several interviews with the social worker assigned to Christopher. She was able to schedule visits by the rehab facilities that we chose. Two of their ambassadors came by to speak with us about their facilities and give us our options with insurance. We also met with the rehab physician and PT techs who had to assess Christopher's capabilities and needs.

While the PT techs were trying to get Christopher standing we had a wonderful surprise. I was trying to make room in the small room by moving things into the bathroom when out of the corner of my eye I see two people standing in the doorway. I acknowledged them and turned back to what I was doing when I realized I know those faces, "no I am in Philadelphia they're not here, they live in Florida". Standing in the door were Jackie Price and her daughter Helen Teggs. John her husband, was downstairs driving around the block, they had the dog in the car and didn't want to leave him. Debbie and I were blown away.

Jackie is the mother of one of my best friends, Jimmy and I have been friends since elementary school. Helen was a year behind us in school. Her and her husband have provided great prayer support for us during Christopher's recovery. John just underwent major back surgery himself. We thank them for driving out of their way to provide a familiar smiling face. Amazing.

We were finally able to get him a transfer to a rehab hospital which is part of Penn Medicine. We ended up waiting until 8pm for the ambulance to get him to the new facility.

It was another late night for Deb and I, we got back to the hotel around midnight. We are starting to feel the strain. A few hours sleep and all will be repaired.
