Saturday Oct. 20th

A good day today, Debbie and I have been working with the therapy team and Christopher to stand and pivot him in and out of the bed and wheelchair. He has been very good at helping us by leaning forward and pushing up with his legs into a standing position. Although this is a little more difficult than using the Hoyer lift, it is much more practical as we will not always have a lift available. It is also good stimulation for Christopher.

By the time I reached the hospital this morning, Christopher already had visitors. Pam Gonzalez called me earlier to say she and Alex, her son, and Wes Burns, would like to come by to visit Christopher, if he is up for it. Both Alex and Wes played baseball at Lassiter with Christopher. Pam is also the wife of Fredi Gonzalez, manager of the Atlanta Braves, who was also with them. What a special surprise to have them come by. Alex and Wes were home for the weekend and had gone to the Lassiter Milton football game the night before. It was great to be able to see them. Thank you Fredi for the baseball, we look forward to you all coming back for another visit.

Coleman and Luke Panosian happened to be there at the same time, so once again we had a full house. It was a good day. You could see Christopher was happy to have a room full of visitors and he seemed to be trying to participate in the conversation.

Soon after they left, we put Christopher back to bed for some rest and to let him watch the rest of the Auburn/Vandy game while we had some lunch. On our return, Christopher was sitting up in the bed, his face was beet red. Not sure if it was the game and Auburn losing again or something else, but I am sure it didn’t help.

The rest of the evening was very nice, we watched some more football and finally got him off to sleep. We thank you for your continued support, thoughts and prayers. Once again we are amazed at the network of people touched by Christopher’s story. He is a very special young man, who has brought much joy to his family and friends. We appreciate you all now being a part of our family and sharing each of Christopher’s milestones.
