Today Christopher and I were at home together. Debbie was off to the office early this morning. Kim and Shelley are scheduled to come at one this afternoon for his PT and OT sessions.
So my intentions are to get him on the standing frame prior to their arrival. We are still putting his knee brace on him to eliminate the possibility of further injuring his right knee. The standing frame really is making a big difference in his regaining his strength. The more we can get him to do, the better. It is a fine balance that has to be maintained between pushing too hard and not enough.
Shelley and Kim were great, Kim was feeding Christopher a popsicle after their session had finished, as a reward for his efforts. We are so thankful for their time with Christopher and for all of the time each of the volunteers are giving to aid in his recovery.
I was able to run to the store while they were working with Christopher. On my return I was happily surprised by a visitor, Mike Lavelle who stopped by to say hello and drop off some Jello for Christopher. We had a very nice visit it was good to see him and for him to be able to see a difference in Christopher’s progress.
Mike had last seen us as we were loading Christopher into the car on our family training day. We were on our way to the Variety store for an afternoon out, seems so long ago now.
Tammy the speech therapist was schedule to be here at three, three thirty.
She must not be coming, so I am going to go ahead and feed Christopher. She still hasn’t seen him swallow yet, maybe next time.
Wouldn’t you know it, as soon as I finish filling him to the brim; she is ringing the door bell, about two and a half hours late. Atlanta traffic gets another one. Oh well, we will give it a go with some Jello. First three bites he takes, chews a little bit and spits it out, “what a toad”!
Here I am bragging about how much he had been eating over the past few days and he won’t even let it stay in his mouth while she is here. We tried for a few more minutes, nothing. Finally, after letting him sit a few minutes I tried again and he swallowed the first bite, the second bite and then just kept going. She is now a believer.
Great job Christopher.
