Debbie and Christopher had a wonderful visit with the Roush family, last night. They stopped in to visit and to drop off dinner. Davis was thrilled. We had tacos, Mexican rice, guacamole, chips, and all the trimmings, with fudge and brownies for dessert. What more could you ask for, good food and great company.
A long day today for Debbie and I both, the surgery schedule at my center is keeping me late, as everyone scrambles to have their surgery before the end of the year. As Debbie and I begin getting Christopher ready for bed we sit him in his wheelchair to brush his teeth, he loves us brushing his teeth, not. We have a small bar sink near our back door, going out to the deck. It is perfect as the “drive through oral hygiene station”. It is equipped with manual toothbrush, electric toothbrush, dental sponge swabs, Maglite flashlight, toothpaste, mouthwash and rinse, Chap Stick (have to keep those lips soft for the girls) and a Waterpik. The Waterpik is essential, not only can we use it to spray wash Christopher’s mouth, it can be used to water the plants sitting on the bar.
I don’t know how many of you have one of these devices. Ours has an on/off switch and a volume/flow dial that regulates the amount of water jetted out of the end of a handpiece. The handpiece has a small button to depress to stop or allow the water to spray. Debbie and I both have nearly drowned ourselves trying to use this thing. When you turn it on it automatically sprays water unless you are depressing the button. We have laughed so many times at each other. This process seems so unnatural. It should be the other way around, where the water flows when you depress the button. So there you have it, Christopher receives in five minutes or less, a full service oral hygiene service, facial and shower, all for the same price. Tip not included. We’re thinking of franchising.
It is now nearly midnight and Debbie is off to bed, I still have to put Christopher’s splints on, I usually wait until after he is asleep, it normally only takes a few minutes. He is moving so much more now; he is rolling himself from side to side. Debbie said they worked on that today in one of his therapy sessions. We have to make sure the side rails on the bed are up or he will be on the floor.
We are still making progress, so all is good. Thank you Lord.
