Wednesday Jan.16th thru Sunday Jan. 20th

It has been a great week; Christopher continues to be more expressive, laughing and smiling.

Wednesday he received two stretching sessions one in the morning with Leo, and a second session in the afternoon with Kim and Shelly. Kim gave him a lime flavored popsicle as a reward for working hard. His first bite gave him a shudder and puckered his lips. I wish we could have gotten a picture. It didn’t deter him, he ate it all.

Debbie has started feeding him some pureed vegetables and chicken, we are starting to substitute these for his tube feedings. He is doing very well taking these by mouth.

Friday night Davis and I took Christopher to the Lassiter High School basketball game, wow what an exciting atmosphere. Not sure which garnered Christopher’s attention more, the game or the cheerleaders?

It was great to see everyone, they announced Christopher as a special guest at the break between the first and second quarter. When they announced him, all of the student section stood up chanting “We Love Heitzman, We Love Heitzman”. I hope you all know how much we love you; you continue to bolster our spirits everyday

There were so many girls crowded around Christopher at the game. I am sorry there is no way I could remember all of your names, thank you for coming over to see him. Kelly and George it was good to see you. George, the boys played hard, just a bit out manned.

Saturday morning Davis and I got up for his lacrosse workout, he had to be there at 9:00am, it was freezing. We ended up getting some donuts to take home afterwards.

Once we got home, Debbie and Christopher were in the kitchen; she had fed him earlier but was giving him some orange juice. Davis and I grabbed a donut and Christopher wouldn’t take his eyes off of us. So I pinched off a little bite of a jelly donut and gave it to him. He chewed it up and swallowed it with a big smile on his face. He ate half of that donut and a couple of donut holes before eating another half a donut later. The whole time he was eating, he was smiling. Nothing better on Saturday morning than fresh donuts.

Debbie and her “special friend” Coleman were running errands Saturday while Davis and I carried Christopher upstairs to shower. He slept in his own bedroom staring at Bob, the stuffed squirrel above his headboard. Debbie and I purchased Bob at the Scott’s antique fair a couple years ago for Christopher’s birthday.

Bob came about from a time when we had a squirrel in our attic. It was on Christopher’s end of the house and he could hear it every time it was running around. He came down one morning muttering about Bob keeping him awake all night, he had named the squirrel. I ended up setting a trap and told Christopher to stay out of the attic, well he couldn’t stand not being able to check the trap, and eventually made his way up to see for himself. On his way back across to the stairway he stepped off of the flooring between the rafters and fell through the ceiling down to the second floor hallway. He hasn’t been in the attic since. Well Debbie and I saw the squirrel at the antique fair and knew Bob was coming home.

Today Marcy and Tammy a friend of hers from Phoenix are coming by to cut Christopher’s hair. Tammy and her daughter are here visiting and she asked if she could cut Christopher’s hair. She gave me a few pointers for the next time I cut it. He looks Marvelous, see pictures below.

We went did a little shopping today at Home Depot and Publix. We grilled burgers and brats for the Falcon’s play off game. Coleman and a couple of Davis’s friends came to eat and watch the game. To bad they just couldn’t hold on long enough to win.

The first of the two pictures was taken at the Shepherd Center the day we were coming home, the second picture was taken today. You can see the difference in his face and the amount of weight gain.

Looking good.

  2. Awesome! It is wonderful to hear about the continued progress...but to see it in pictures is amazing. Clearly he is healing bit by bit daily as you notice new things he does....smiling and laughing....wishing for that donut....it all is so meaningful! Whatever you are doing, it is working very well. I continue to lift up your family in prayer.
