This weekend was pretty laid back, Saturday Christopher did have two hours of PT with Anne, she had some extra time available in the afternoon so we were able to get him up to walk. He did really well.
In the morning session Anne focused on some exercises to strengthen Christopher's hip extensors. Hopefully this will help in his walking more upright. The idea is to get him to tuck his bottom in and keep his chest up with his shoulders back.
Anne mentioned she plans to recommend for Christopher to be able to continue his rehab for an additional week. The team assesses each patient on Monday and then Joanne submits the request to insurance. Hopefully we will be granted the extra week. That will keep us from having to change flights again and also give Christopher the extra time to continue with the intensive therapy.
The rest of the afternoon was spent watching football, still pretty cold outside. It is supposed to warmup a little tomorrow, maybe we can get outside for a little while.
Sunday morning I was able wash Christopher's hair, it is tough not being able to get him in the shower. I really think he misses them. Once I got him dressed we went down to the family area and watched some TV and tried a 500 piece puzzle. He was doing as well as I was finding the pieces of the puzzle.
After lunch we were finally able to get outside, it was still a little cool, but the sunshine felt great. Christopher was so excited about being out. He wasn't lost his wanting to be in the car, the whole time we were out he kept pointing at the cars in the parking lot.
Monday morning we were up early, Maggie the OT helped Christopher get dressed, she and I had him practice his transfers to the wheelchair. We got him up a couple times, they all use this as a measurement of his progress. Even with the casts, his transfers are getting easier, you can tell he is getting stronger.
We worked with Anne and Kira in the gym concentrating on strengthening his hip extensors again, standing in the standing frame and then walking in the walker. The progression worked well, he was much more upright today, Anne was very pleased.
Joanne submitted the request for the extra week, we hope to hear something by tomorrow. Please keep us in your prayers.
