Our Journey To Recovery

Wednesday October 30th

We are both up and ready, waiting for the ambulance crew to transfer Christopher to Penn Hospital. They are scheduled to be here at 8:00 so we are just waiting. We have one of the nurses from Good Shepherds going with us, she will stay with us while we are at Penn and until we return to Good Shepherds.

We finally made it to Penn, it is less than a mile from Good Shepherds, but with traffic and all of the one way streets it takes a while. Plus it started raining as we were coming out of Good Shepherds.

We had several of the same nurses and staff as we did for the first surgery day. They all remembered Christopher and the hugs. Everyone was very nice and comforting, Christopher did really well.
Here's christopher talking on the phone with Debbie, at the end you see him moving the phone to his mouth, he is giving Deb a kiss.

We got up to pre-op around 10:00 and had to wait quite a while before before they took him into surgery. Thankfully the procedure itself was really quick. It was less than an hour for them to change the cast.

Dr. Baldwin put Christopher in below the knee casts and a hinged knee brace on the right. This is what we were hoping for and what we were told could happen. We are very thankful, this should make it much more comfortable for him going forward. He will be in the cast for another four weeks at least.

Here is the hinged knee brace, he will wear this locked the majority of the time and it can be unlocked during PT so he will shoul be able to walk more normally.

We returned to Good Shepherd at about 5:30. Food, food, food that is what Christopher wanted. He has a program on his IPad, Lenord it is one of the Sesame Street characters one of the thing he does is eat a hotdog, Christopher played it the up until the time we were able to get him something to eat. I guess he wanted to make sure we got the message.
