Today Christopher was slowly raised to a sitting position after laying flat
for 36 hours. He was a little nauseated, but soon settled down. He started the
day with Cheryl from speech therapy along with Edina from the Assistive
Communication Department. They had Christopher working with eye recognition and
his favorite Victoria Secret models (photos), he did very well with a little
smirk on his face. Tomorrow they will bring him his own monitor, to have in his
room which is calibrated to display Yes and No on the screen to aid him in
communicating.
Megan from PT then got him out of bed into his wheelchair and off to the
gym for some gentle stretching and sitting on the edge of the mat. He was able
to hold himself upright quite well considering the wounds, from surgery, on his
back and his abdomen. He is really quite tough.
We headed out to the garden for a little sunshine and then back to bed for
a rest at lunchtime. Stephanie his OT came to take him back to the gym and she
concentrated on stretching the muscles in his neck as he keeps turning his head
to his left and she is encouraging him to keep it in the midline. He really does
not enjoy that. To that end, I moved the furniture around in his room to
encourage him to turn his head to the midline to watch TV. Maybe that will help,
especially if there is baseball or football on TV.
We had a quiet evening until I spilt Christopher's tube feed onto him and
into his bed and we had to clean him up and change the entire bed. Not quite
what I had in mind at the end of the day!
Thank you for continuing to post updates so we can pray specifically for any needs you have. We are praying continually for Chris and your entire family. So great seeing you at the baseball game Thursday night and thank you for the hug. Know God is all over this and we look forward to that first pitch Chris will throw out this spring. Keep the faith!
