Our Journey To Recovery

Sunday Dec. 23rd

We have taken Christopher shopping once again, braving the Barrett Parkway traffic, on our way to Costco. The family has decided to have surf and turf for Christmas dinner, so it looks like I will be grilling on the back deck, umbrella in one hand, tongs in the other.

We had a very nice time; we went around the back way to Costco avoiding most of the traffic. The boys loved going to Sam's and Costco when they were younger, they were always first in line for the samples. They enjoyed trying new things. Davis still hasn't changed much.

We weren't out long, too cold and windy to be outside to long. Debbie and I still have to go finalize our purchase of a new sofa and chairs for the family room. We have worn out the existing set we have now and Debbie is ready to change the look anyway.

After dropping Christopher and Davis at the house we are on our way to Alpharetta, we had been to a couple of stores and believe we have found what we want.

As we are sitting at a traffic light on Mansell Road, there is a young man standing at the bus stop listening to music or something from his phone, earbuds in place, waiting for the bus. I see two teenaged boys running up to this young man, one of them carrying a baseball bat. With half a dozen or so other cars blowing their horns and occupants screaming at them, the two in a manner of seconds attacked the young man and ran off. By the time we got thru the traffic at the light, the two men had fled to a waiting car and sped off in the other direction.

Several of us pulled off the road to assist the beaten and battered young man as he was lying on the sidewalk. We called 911 and waited for the ambulance and police to arrive. The young man Charles, never lost consciousness but was bleeding badly from the wounds to his head.

The attackers had broken the bat on him and dropped it as they ran off. Hopefully with their descriptions and that of the car, and maybe with fingerprints off of the bat, the police will be able to find these cowards. Such a brutal and disturbing attack happening on a busy street in the middle of the day is unbelievable.

We will keep Charles in our prayers.
