Our Journey To Recovery

Friday April 26th

Yesterday we were back to see Donna, Lauren and Erica at Georgia Hand. Christopher was scheduled to have his splint adjusted again. When we arrived we were anticipating being there for quite some time, the past couple of visits lasted over three hours each.

The multi-layer splint he is currently in takes a while to readjust. Each section is heated in hot water and then remolded to his arm and wrist, straightening it a little more each time.

We were surprised with a new adjustable splint. It can be adjusted to flex or extend as necessary. The goal is to extend his arm by 10% each week. We were there only two hours.

In the picture below he is supposed to be at 130 degrees, which is where we have been able to keep him for the most part, but in reality he is at about 95 degrees. He has figured out how to rub the splint on the arm of his chair and can move the adjustment knob enough to change the settings.

The splint looks pretty ominous but it is actually much more comfortable than the previous splint he was wearing.

Debbie returns home from Canada this afternoon. Coleman is at the house, he is going to spend the night and go with us to Tennessee to watch Davis play lacrosse tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will hold out for us.
