Our Journey To Recovery

Monday April 1st thru Sunday April 7th

What started out as a pretty laid back week ended up being pretty busy. With Debbie in Canada all this week, the boys and I will be on our own.

Monday morning started with a session with Leo/stretching, Yolanda/PT and Larissa/ST and ended with an appointment with Dr. Ellis who worked on Christopher's standing and range of motion in his left arm. After several attempts he was able to get Christopher's left elbow raised above the shoulder.

Christopher continues to hold the arm very protectively against his left side. Most of this is in an attempt to keep the wrist from being moved or touched. I know it has to be very sore to touch. Dr. Ellis is confident we can get back to a functioning state with the continued therapies in progress.

At the Surgery Center Wednesday waiting for his procedure.

We were scheduled for the Botox injections and splinting on Wednesday with the pre-op visit on Tuesday afternoon.

Before
After
Here we are GA Hand for the post-op rehab visit you can see what a difference in the alignment of his elbow and wrist, the elbow is at about 90 degrees. When you compare that with the before picture on the left you can see the difference. He had it tucked up like a chicken wing before.
Everything went very well with the injections, we arrived at the surgery center around eleven thirty expecting to go into the pre-op area around twelve, twelve thirty but we were informed they had moved the surgery back a couple of hours because of an emergency surgery that was being completed ahead of us. So we sat and waited, no big deal. We just hadn't eaten since eight last night. I knew I could live on the fat I had stored up over the past several years, Christopher might have started chewing on my arm before we got out of there, but we made it through without any issues.

We got home Wednesday night around five thirty. Christopher did very well only taking pain meds twice before going to sleep for the night.

Thursday morning Yolanda and Stephanie worked Christopher together and were very excited about the results we were already seeing with the Botox and splinting.

Later that day during the rehab visit, I hadn't realized they were going to redo his entire splint. We were there nearly three and a half grueling hours. He was not a happy camper.

The therapist Donna, Lauren and Erica were wonderful, making the time much easier than it could have been. They had to fashion three separate splints for Christopher's arm, wrist and hand, each of which are to be worn over the next, as one, to achieve the end results desired. This was quite a feat to complete. he and I were both drenched in sweat by the time we left. Poor Eileen was sitting in the waiting room listening to the noise during the whole thing.

Well the rest of the week went well, Debbie got home Saturday night and we made our way down to the lake on Sunday to start Spring Break.

Time for some sun and relaxation.
