This week started out like many of the past few weeks, we were late getting up this morning we didn't get home from Charlotte until after 10 pm. Our stop at the Moyers' was fantastic, the picture of Christopher and Courtney shows Christopher holding the pig, let me give you the details about "the pig". Dana's little pup Tallulah had a squeeze toy that Christopher thought was the funniest thing, it makes a sound very funny to most teenage boys and from the first time he heard it he laughed and laughed. So now we have "the pig". Thank Dana.
Today Christopher had a great session with Cathy, Marley and Susan Fiveash came by while they were working. They were amazed at his progress and how well he was following instructions. The day passed by quickly, Gary Zingler took Christopher out for a walk through the neighborhood and over to the pool and to Davis Elementary School. Is has been pretty hot today, but he loves being outside.
Upon their return Christopher looked pretty hot so I gave him some water and let him cool off. He drank two bottles of water which is unusual thirty minutes or so later he started to get sick. All of this came on very sudden, I thought he was over heated, but his temperature was normal, his heart rate was a little elevated. He soon settled down but still didn't look like he felt well. His nausea stopped and after Debbie got home from work we up him to bed, he didn't eat dinner.
Wednesday he still wasn't feeling well we thought he may have a UTI which is common with indwelling catheters. I was able to get him an appointment with our primary care physician the next morning. Once again he did not sleep very well. It was obvious he was in pain, he was holding his left side and very agitated, Thursday morning couldn't get here quick enough.
UTI no big deal they will give him an antibiotic and he will be fine, no worries. Well our normal doctor was out of town and the doctor we saw wasn't convinced a UTI was the only problem and sent us to the emergency room. Certainly not what we expected. Debbie met us at Piedmont Hospital where Christopher was seen in the ER. After blood work, CT scan and urine cultures it was determined Christopher indeed did have an infection but he CT also showed what looked like a hernia and a small bowel obstruction, definitely not what we expected. The consulting physician informed us that he would need emergency surgery to repair the hernia and bowel.
So around 5:30 the attending surgeon came in to explain that it looked as if Christopher had a loop of bowel that was twisted and in danger of becoming a even bigger problem. So now we are waiting for them to get him to the OR. They have given him some meds for the pain and he seems to be more comfortable.
Keep him in your prayers, I will keep you posted.
